What is THE sleep out?

We are calling on people from Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and beyond to give up their beds on Friday 30th September for one night to raise vital funds for those facing homelessness in the West.

Take the challenge and join one of our Community Sleep Outs taking place across Galway City and County or organise your own Sleep Out in a safe place of your choosing. This could be a tent in your back garden in Boyle, a trampoline in Claremorris, a garden shed in Headford or an office car park in Vancouver. By joining either of these Sleep Out for Simon events you’re guaranteed to come away with a sense of pride at making a difference.

How to Take Part?

To take part, you can either register to join one of our Community Sleep Out Events in areas such as Shop Street or you can organise your own private Sleep Out in a safe place of your choosing; and register as an Individual, Corporate Group or Community Group.

Organise your own Sleep Out means that no matter where you are in the world, be that Moycullen, Westport, Castlerea or Shanghai, you can still get involved and raise vital funds for those most vulnerable in the West.

Join a Community sLEEP OUT

Our goal is to bring each community together – local enterprises, community groups, schools and individuals – to Sleep Out in solidarity with those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. You can join a community Sleep Out in one of the following locations:

  • Shop Street
  • Salthill
  • Tuam
  • Oranmore/Maree
  • Moycullen

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help your Community Leader raise €20,000! We’re asking those who wish to join a Community Sleep Out to commit to raising a minimum of:

  • €250 for individuals
  • €1,500 for local community groups / schools / sports clubs
  • €2,500 for local business or enterprises

For example, if your company, community group or school* is based in Oranmore/Maree you can register as part of the Oranmore/Maree Community Sleep Out and select 2-4 people from your organisation to join the group on the night for some fun fundraising activities, a sing-song and your Sleep Out. If you would like to join one of our Community Sleep Outs, register under Community.

*Persons under 18 years of age are not permitted to participate in our Community Sleep Outs. However, they are welcome to join their Community Leader in fundraising for Galway Simon. If youth groups wish to do a Sleep Out, we recommend they host their own Sleep Out in a safe and secure location such as their school, team meeting place, or even their own back yard. Safety is our priority and therefore we cannot accommodate those under the age of 18 years in any of our Community Sleep out locations.*

    Organise Your own sleep out

Galway Simon is calling on you and your friends and family, businesses, schools and community groups to come together and Sleep Out for Simon on Friday 30th September and raise vital funds for individuals and families facing the fear of homelessness.

    While there is no minimum fundraising requirement to organise your own Sleep Out, we suggest the following fundraising targets to help safeguard our services;

    • €250 for individuals
    • €1,500 for local community groups / schools / sports clubs
    • €2,500 for local business or enterprises

Together with the support of our local communities and your amazing fundraising, we’re aiming to raise €100,000 to support people experiencing or at risk homelessness in the West.
