A Message From Pat Kearney – Chairman- Galway GAA

Galway GAA Call on Local Clubs | Virtual Sleep Out for Simon

A MESSAGE FROM PAT KEARNEY, CHAIRMAN, GALWAY GAA

These past six months have been extremely difficult and hugely challenging for everybody due to Covid-19. This global pandemic has had a catastrophic impact on families, businesses, sport and more. It’s also had a huge effect on wonderful charitable organisations such as Galway Simon Community who provide housing and prevention services to those who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness in the West of Ireland.

The Sleep Out for Simon event is their biggest annual fundraiser which has taken place in towns and villages throughout the West over the past four years. This year due to Covid-19 the event has been reimagined and is set to take place virtually across Galway and beyond on Friday, October 2nd. Galway Simon are looking for our support and are calling on all Galway GAA members to swap their beds for sleeping bags for one night to host their own Virtual Sleep Out in support of those facing homelessness in our community.

It’s an easy to-do, engaging fundraiser and each club can choose to take part their own way – whether it’s pitching a tent at home in their gardens, bedding down on their living room floors, or spending the night under the stars on their pitch. On the night there will be a timeline of live-streamed activities from Galway Simon to bring everyone together with interactive games, entertainment and guest appearances.

All you have to do is register now here. To register your club just select the ‘take part as a team’ option and search for Galway GAA from the drop-down list.

Galway Simon Community needs our help more than ever before so they can continue to be there to help those who need it most. I know it’s a very difficult time for GAA Clubs financially so anything you can do would be greatly appreciated.100% of proceeds will go directly towards safeguarding Galway Simon’s essential Homelessness Prevention Services which include a County-wide Community Support Service, a dedicated Youth Service, a specialist Women & Family Service and a drop-in Resource Centre in East County Galway.

I would like to wish everybody at Galway Simon the very best with their first ever Sleep Out and kindly ask all Galway GAA members to support this hugely exciting and much needed fundraiser.

Thank you.

Pat Kearney, Chairman, Galway GAA
